Bashkortostan has entered the top five in the ESG ranking of Russian regions, coming in fourth place. The assessment of the performance of Russian regions in the environmental, social, and governance spheres was carried out on more than 130 indicators by the Russian nonprofit organization Environmental Protection Foundation – Ecofon. These rating indicators are based on open data from government ministries, departments, and interdepartmental information systems.
The principles of sustainable development are actively implemented in Bashkortostan’s special economic zones and enterprises. For example, the Alga special economic zone has entered the top ten in the II ESG rating of SEZs in Russia, which was announced in early October during the International SEZ forum in Dubna. Nail Gabbasov, the general director of the Development Corporation of Bashkortostan, spoke about the efforts being made to implement the ESG model in Alga’s activities.
— Following the principles of sustainable development, the Development Corporation, as the management company of the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) “Alga”, aims to create favorable conditions for residents and employees. We are creating infrastructure at SEZ sites, implementing measures to rationally use natural resources, and improving corporate governance efficiency. I would like to note that we also work to promote the ESG agenda with residents of the SEZ. They also implement a set of measures to achieve sustainable development goals in their enterprises,” said Nail Gabbasov.
Recall that ESG standards imply a responsible approach to the environment, high social responsibility, as well as quality corporate governance. These approaches contribute to increasing investment attractiveness and are a condition for the successful development of infrastructure in the region.
